Pools & outdoor living

Inground pools, decking and the whole backyard around them.

Excavation through finish — pool, decking, coping, water features, hardscape and surrounds carried by one builder, so the backyard reads as one project instead of four.

The pool is a third of the project. The backyard is the rest.

Almost every disappointing pool has the same story: the pool company built the pool, and the decking, the grade, the seating, the lighting and the walk from the back door were somebody else's problem, or nobody's. The result is a beautiful body of water in an unfinished yard, with coping that doesn't relate to anything on the house.

We carry the whole thing. Excavation, structure, plumbing and equipment, decking and coping, water features, retaining walls, patios and surrounds — one contract, with the finish selections made together the way they would be inside the house.

What we build

  • Inground pool construction — excavation, site prep, structure, plumbing and equipment sets
  • Decking & coping — stone, paver and poured systems, detailed at the waterline
  • Water features — sheer-descent walls, spillovers, integrated spas and lighting
  • Hardscape & surrounds — patios, seating areas, retaining walls, steps and grade transitions
  • Outdoor living — outdoor kitchens and bars, fire features, pergolas and shade structures
  • Renovation of existing pools — failed decking and coping replaced, surrounds rebuilt, features added

Plan it in the winter, swim in it in the summer

Michigan gives you a short build season and long permitting timelines, and the two do not cooperate. Backyards that open in June were designed the previous fall. If a pool is on your list for next season, the walkthrough should happen now — we'd rather tell you honestly what's achievable on your timeline than take a deposit and disappoint you in August.

How a job runs

From walkthrough to first swim.

The same five steps on every project.

1

Walk the job

We meet you at the property, look at the actual conditions, and talk through what you want and what the building will allow. No sales call, no showroom.

2

Written estimate

Notes from the walkthrough become a line-item estimate, typically emailed within a day. Scope and price in writing before anyone swings a hammer.

3

Schedule & build

A project manager holds the schedule, the permits and the inspections so the site is never idle waiting on someone. A qualified foreman runs the site itself, directing our tradespeople and holding the finish to standard every day the job is open.

4

Daily communication

Progress photos if you're not on site, and an immediate call — not an invoice surprise — the moment anything comes up outside the original scope.

5

Walkthrough & close

We walk the job with you the day before completion so anything you want corrected is handled on the final day. Then the invoice, and the keys.

Answers

Pool & outdoor living questions

What does a full pool project actually include?

Excavation and site preparation, the pool structure itself, plumbing and equipment sets, decking and coping, and the hardscape and surrounds that make it usable — patios, seating areas, retaining walls, water features and lighting. Because one company carries the pool and the exterior work around it, the decking, the coping and the finishes on the house actually relate to each other instead of being three separate decisions made by three separate contractors.

When should we start planning for a summer pool?

Earlier than most people think. Michigan's build window is compressed by the winter, permitting takes real time in most municipalities, and the good crews and materials get committed early. If you want to swim in it that summer, the conversation should be happening in the fall or winter before — not in May.

Do you do the hardscape and outdoor living areas too?

Yes, and that's usually where a backyard is won or lost. The pool is the easy part to picture. What makes it a place you actually use is the decking material, the seating, the grade, the lighting, the privacy and how you get from the house to the water without walking across a lawn. We build all of it, which is why it ends up looking like one project.

Can you work on an existing pool?

Yes. Replacing failed decking and coping, rebuilding surrounds, adding water features and lighting, and reworking the hardscape around a pool that's structurally fine but dated is a substantial part of what we do — and it transforms a backyard for a fraction of a full replacement.
